Chengling’s work — which studies the connection between the unusual “sub-Arrhenius” dynamics of cell models and their mechanics — has been published in Physical Review Letters! Chengling found that these models have very interesting mechanics at low temperatures, with a shear modulus that increases as the system is heated up. This kind of entropic elasticity has been seen in spring-network models with fixed topology, but never (to our knowledge) in models of particles or cells that can rearrange and exchange neighbors.
